THE POSITION

The First Aid Officer provides a broad range of primary health care services and support to students and staff and plays a key role in ensuring the medical readiness and health-related compliance of the College. The position includes responsibilities such as administering first aid, managing chronic health conditions, coordinating staff training, liaising with health authorities, and maintaining medical equipment and records.

This is a job-share position (two staff members each working 3 days per week) with a strong focus on collaboration, handover, and shared accountability. You will work within the Inclusion and Diversity Team and support the College’s holistic wellbeing approach through active involvement in health promotion and student support planning.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Experience in managing and/or contributing to First Aid responses (including current First Aid qualification).
  • Reliable, flexible and self-directed, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Calm under pressure with the ability to manage emergency or high-stress situations professionally.
  • Strong time management, planning and administrative skills.
  • Sound computer literacy and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Awareness of health and safety responsibilities relevant to a school setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to identify and report risks proactively.
  • Commitment to work within and positively advance the mission and Mercy values.

Desirable:

  • Anaphylaxis Training certification.
  • Mental Health First Aid certification.
  • Professional industry membership or network involvement.
  • Previous experience in a school setting.

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS

This position is subject to a Working With Children Check, Police Check, and a current driver’s licence, and will be classified in accordance with the Catholic Education Multi Enterprise Agreement 2022.
Shortlisted candidates will have appropriate suitability and background checks undertaken by the College.

SALARY RANGE

  • Education Support Services, Category C, Level 3
    ($78,206-$88,613 full time equivalent)
