St Martin de Porres is a vibrant, multicultural Catholic primary school in Melbourne’s west, known for its strong community spirit, high expectations and commitment to every child’s growth. We nurture 260 students across 12 classes, celebrating their diversity, curiosity and unique strengths. Teachers work in collaborative teams, fostering innovation, shared practice and a deep love of learning.

We are seeking a passionate and committed Year 1 classroom teacher to join our community in a maternity leave replacement position beginning in Term 2, 2026. This is a 12-month contract with the possibility of ongoing employment. A thorough handover will be provided by the current classroom teacher to ensure a smooth transition.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants will be expected to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the ethos of a Catholic school and its mission and actively participate in the life of the St Martin de Porres school community
  • provide students with a child-safe environment that supports student wellbeing and fosters positive relationshipsÌý
  • engage with the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement, applying it meaningfully within our school context
  • create a vibrant learning environment where all students are challenged, engaged, and motivated, with high expectations that support their academic, social, and emotional growth
  • gather, analyse, and use student data to inform teaching practice and drive learning outcomes.
  • be an effective, collaborative, and professional team member
  • demonstrate an understanding and use of evidence-based best practices in teaching
  • commit to ongoing professional learning and continuous improvement
  • build and maintain respectful, caring relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • provide a cover letter addressing the key selection criteria and a current resume including three referees one of whom is an applicant's current principal
  • complete the Application for Employment form
  • have relevant teaching qualifications
  • be currently registered with VIT
  • have accreditation to teach Religious Education (or will work towards accreditation)
  • be committed to the ethos of Catholic education.
