Role Description/Criteria
Why this is a Career, Not Just a Job
Mount Lilydale Mercy College, a leading co-educational Catholic secondary college with over 1600 students, is seeking dedicated, career-minded Learning Support Officers (LSO) to join our Learning Diversity Team. We are committed to attracting individuals who view educational support as a long-term profession, not a temporary role.
Inspired by the charism of the Sisters of Mercy, we focus on providing educational opportunities that inspire learning, nurture faith and encourage all students to be their best. Your expertise will be integral to this mission, ensuring a truly inclusive learning environment.
Your Impact: Key Professional Responsibilities
This specialist role requires considerable initiative, discretion and expertise. You will move beyond general assistance to focus on high-impact areas critical for student success:
- Literacy & Numeracy Intervention: Provide targeted support and encouragement to students experiencing difficulty with numeracy and literacy.
- Program Development: Leverage your experience to assist with the development of evidence-based intervention programs for students experiencing difficulty in learning.
- Specialist Classroom Support: Provide dedicated support within core academic subjects, specifically Mathematics, English and Science classes.
- Fostering Independence: Collaboratively develop a repertoire of strategies to improve students' organisational skills and independence. You will actively support students to initiate tasks and develop a personal sense of achievement.
- Professional Consultation: Collaborate and consult with classroom teachers and College leaders to ensure practices, environment and assessment tasks are suitable for each student's learning profile.
What We Need in Professional LSOs
- Expertise: Relevant qualifications or significant on-the-job experience.
- Initiative: The ability to exercise significant initiative and discretion.
- Commitment to compliance: Familiarity with and compliance with the Disability Standards for Education, Disability Discrimination Act and Child Safety policies.
- Team Collaboration: Proven ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with teachers, College Leaders and support staff.
Ideally, the roles will be full time, however we are open to considering part time for the right applicants. We are dedicated to attracting and retaining the best possible team, recognising that our mission is achieved through our staff.
If you are a driven professional ready to advance your career in Learning Support and contribute to a vibrant Catholic college community, we encourage you to apply.
